There are so many benefits of self-care. Continue reading to learn about five amazing benefits and a special tip to start taking care of yourself today.
It’s so hard for women to find the time to care for themselves. In today’s day and age, a lot of women are not only running a household but also a full-time career. Whether you are a working mom, stay at home mom, work at home mom, or a working lady with no kids, the idea of self-care can often be something we just merely fantasize about.
Who has time for that kind of stuff when there are deadlines to meet, dishes to be washed, kids to bathe, I could go on for days. We are all so busy all the time. The idea of taking time away from our responsibilities can be laughable for most. When you barely have time to get everything else done, how are you supposed to find the time to do a little self-care?
The thing about self-care though, is it’s so important for our overall wellbeing. We need self-care routines to feel rejuvenated and alive. Otherwise, we can get caught in the trap of routine feeling uninspired and bored.
Practicing daily self-care routines can help you create a life that you love. But first you have to love on yourself, and self-care is the best way you can do that.
I want you to truly think about the benefits I’m about to share with you, and then I will give you a strategy at the end on how you can find time, no matter how busy you are, to get some self-care in.
Benefits of Self-Care 1: Improves Your Health
Research has shown, daily self-care routines can strengthen your immune system. Women who practice self-care get sick less often. I believe a big contributor to this the fact self-care allows you to take care of your mind, body, and soul. When you become attuned to what your body needs you make it a priority to eat right and exercise. Women who practice self-care regularly, you are more aware of and appreciate your body more. This motivates you to spend more time caring for it.
Benefits of Self-Care 2: Reduces Stress
When we are happier, we can handle stress better, and small things no longer have as big of an impact on us. Self-care activities can greatly reduce stress because of the calm and joy you experience with a daily self-care practice.
Benefits of Self-Care 3: Increases Productivity
Allowing yourself time to participate in activities that are rejuvenating and refreshing allows you to be more productive. You have more energy and focus, and as a result, you can get more things done in a quicker amount of time. When we don’t take the time to care for ourselves we become drained and unmotivated which keeps us from accomplishing our goals. Daily self-care gives you the energy you need to go out and smash all of your goals.
Benefits of Self-Care 4: Makes You Happy
Self-care is all about doing something for yourself that brings you joy. Whether it’s reading a book, going for a walk, taking a bubble bath, or getting a massage, the idea of self-care is to participate in activities that make you feel happy and alive. When we practice daily self-care, an automatic outcome is becoming a happier person.
Benefits of Self-Care 5: Improves Your Relationships
When you get into the habit of incorporating daily self-care into your everyday routine, all of the above-mentioned benefits occur, and you become a more vibrant, loving person. The people around you get to experience a relationship with you in this state. You connect better and become more present with your friends, family, and co-workers. Your relationships strengthen because everyone you care so deeply about are now getting the best of you rather than what is left of you. When you make the time to do things that rejuvenate you, you are better able to connect, support, and love those closest to you.
All this stuff sounds great, right? But we still have this one big obstacle when it comes to getting any self-care in.
TIME.
We just never seem to have enough time to get everything done we need to get done. Much less take 30 minutes to ourselves to do something enjoyable.
The solution I have, and one that has worked for many women I have worked with, is to schedule it in. Now at first, I usually get an uncomfortable laugh or a side eye with this strategy. But the thing is, we schedule in everything else, why not schedule in time with ourselves. We schedule doctor appointments, business meetings, parent-teacher conferences, dinner dates, and girl’s nights. And you make most of those appointments, right?
The reason you have time to make those appointments is because you treat them like they are a priority. Well if you don’t already know, I’m going to tell you. You, my dear, are a major priority!
You need to treat your self-care appointments just as important as a meeting with your boss to discuss a promotion. Or a parent-teacher conference to see why your kid may be struggling in school.
You do have the time. It’s just a decision you have to make to prioritize your time in order to care for yourself so that you can show up as your best self.
As I discussed with all of the benefits, we are better able to show up in life when we practice self-care regularly. We have more patience with our kids, we can connect better with our spouses, and we can be more productive in our careers. Overall, your life get’s so much better when you decide to schedule in regular self-care appointments with yourself.
So tell me, what are you going to do, starting today, to gain the benefits of self-care?
