Back to school is often a time filled with excitement and anticipation for a new school year. When we are getting our children ready for back to school, we often think of buying new outfits, new school supplies, and maybe even a new backpack and lunchbox. One thing that often gets overlooked for the back to school list is essential oils. If you don’t know very much about essential oils, then keep reading because in this post I will share with you why you want essential oils for back to school success!
Many children start school in mid to late August and into early September. The kids are so excited to wear their new shoes or wonder if they will like the new grade they are entering. But before you know it, maybe weeks passed at most, and the reality of another school year sets in. Kids are bringing home germs and getting cold symptoms just weeks into the school year. Some parents come to find out their kids are being inattentive or having tantrums in class. Then, other kids may find the school work too difficult and don’t want to do their homework.
I know all of this too well because I have lived it! I have kids and the scenarios I just mentioned used to play out every school year!
I’ve been using essential oils for a few years now and have learned from experience how essential oils can help with the back to school issues that can arise.
Here are 6 doTERRA essential oil products that I have experienced positive results for my kids and have heard similar results for other kids too.Are you getting ready for back to school? Learn how essential oils can help.Click To Tweet
doTERRA On Guard Protective Blend is a combination of essential oils of Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary. These essential oils work well together to support our immune system, and it’s something you want to have around when seasonal threats are high.
Tips on how to use: Add 6 drops of doTERRA On Guard in the diffuser. It’s an excellent idea to do that in the room the kids are in when they come home from school and especially if they’ve been around someone that is sick. doTERRA even has a whole product line with doTERRA On Guard in it for ongoing support. My favorites are the toothpaste, house cleaner, and laundry detergent.
doTERRA InTune Focus Blend is just that; it helps with focus. The essential oils that make up this blend are Amyris, Patchouli, Frankincense, Lime, Ylang Ylang, Hawaiian Sandalwood and Roman Chamomile. doTERRA InTune is a top-rated doTERRA product for kids to use topically right before going to school so they can focus on their schoolwork. If the school allows, some children find they like to use it again in the middle of the school day for ongoing support.
Tips on how to use: The product comes in a rollerball, but it can be further diluted with a carrier oil. It can be applied topically to the temples and back of the neck. Just apply a little carrier oil, i.e. doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil, and roll on doTERRA InTune, and massage in. The essential oils can be applied to the bottom of their feet if you have a kid that doesn’t want essential oils on their neck because of smelling like essential oils. As a homeschooling mom, I poured doTERRA InTune from the rollerball into a regular essential oil glass bottle so I can add a few drops to the diffuser. This way we all get the benefit in our home classroom.
My daughter used to have “butterflies in her stomach” nearly every morning before school. Lavender can reduce those anxious feelings. It’s great for kids because it is one of the safest essential oils for children to use.
Tips on how to use: Make up a 10 mL roller ball with 10 drops of Lavender essential oil and fill the rest with a carrier oil like doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil. doTERRA also sells Lavender in a 10 mL roller ball all ready to use which my family likes. Apply the Lavender to the temples and back of neck or wrists, and massage in. If preferred, apply to the bottom of the feet.
4. Spearmint or Peppermint (depending on child’s age)
Peppermint is one of my favorite essential oils, and we use it often when we are feeling sleepy and need a pick me up. It’s especially helpful for back to school when it feels way too early for kids as they get back into a school routine. Peppermint is strong, so it’s best to use if your child is at least 10 years of age. Spearmint is much gentler smelling and is safer for smaller children at least 2 years of age.
Tips on how to use: Make up a 10 mL roller ball with 10 drops of Peppermint or Spearmint essential oil and fill the rest with a carrier oil. doTERRA also sells Peppermint in a 10 mL roller ball all ready to use. Apply the Peppermint or Spearmint to the temples and back of neck or wrists, and massage in. If preferred, apply to the bottom of the feet.
When in doubt about what to use, use Frankincense, for its many benefits. Although, the most common reason my kids use Frankincense is for bumps and bruises, especially on the head. We have several roller balls of Frankincense throughout the house because my kids find comfort in using it since they know they will feel better afterward. A typical day in our home includes a crying child that bumped heads with their sibling while at play. They go straight to the Frankincense, apply the Frankincense rollerball over their owie, I ask how their feeling, they say, “I feel better now”, and they return to play.
Tips on how to use: Make up a 10 mL roller ball with 10 drops of Frankincense essential oil and fill the rest with a carrier oil like doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil. Get the doTERRA Touch Frankincense for a 10 mL roller ball already diluted for you. Apply the Frankincense topically to the area of the bump or bruise. Adding a little Lavender essential oil will even provide a greater benefit as Frankincense and Lavender work well together to support healing. For general use, apply to the temples and back of neck or wrists, and massage in. If preferred, apply to the bottom of the feet.
Correct-X Essential Ointment has essential oils of Frankincense, Helichrysum, Melaleuca, Cedarwood, Lavender and other natural ingredients that make up a petroleum-free and preservative-free ointment for irritated skin. It’s a natural cleanser to clean cuts and scrapes and soothe irritated skin. Correct-X is our go to when one of my children gets a skinned knee or other skin abrasions.
Tips on how to use: Correct-X comes in a tube so it’s ready to apply to cuts and scrapes before applying a bandage.
