This is Aroma Mama’s blog stats and income report for September 2017, my sixth month of blogging! This report shows my blog stats, blog income, and expenses, how I made my income, what I learned, and my goal for October.
This is my blog income report introduction. If you have read why I write my blog income reports and how I started monetizing my blog before, go ahead and start reading the blog stats and what I learned this month! 😉
I went into blogging being acutely aware that it could take a very long time before I made a penny back for my time and expenses. I blog because I love to help people and I have a further reach by having a blog. Monetizing my blog is a goal of mine so I can continue to help people reach their health and wellness goals and help bloggers to succeed with their blogs while I still cover my operating expenses and eventually contribute to my family.
My Reasons for Writing My Blog Income Reports
My original reason for posting my blog income reports was because I was encouraged to start a blog by reading blog income reports. I made a decision to start my blog income reports from the very beginning. I wanted to pay it forward and help others who are thinking of starting a blog. Blog income reports provide me so much value and inspiration!
Now, I read, even more, blog income reports than I used to because I still find them so helpful and inspirational. Actually, I find them so helpful that I have a Pinterest board called Blog Income Reports and a group board called We Love Blog Income Reports for income reports and blogging posts. (Send me your Pinterest username using this link if you want to become a contributor to my group board!)
Blog income reports help bloggers to see other blogs income and expenses, strategies and goals, and resources and tools bloggers like to use and find helpful. On a practical note, because my blog is an open book, my blog income reports save me a lot of time answering emails about what tools and resources I use for my blog. Also, the affiliate links help to fund the tools I buy for my website so that I can continue to help people improve their quality of life by writing about natural health and wellness.
My final reason to post my blog income report is to keep myself accountable. I was a nurse for a long time and still like to chart meticulously. I want my income reports to be an accurate picture of “health” for my blog, good or bad. This will allow me to see more clearly where my blog needs to improve.
My hope is that my blog income report is not a cause for comparison, but rather, to get at least one takeaway that can benefit every blogger reading this. I am very sincere, honest, and humbled to share all of my personal blog information, and it’s not always easy. Blogs take time to grow so my numbers aren’t anything special. I do my best to write my income report in a way that teaches bloggers everything I’ve learned along my blogging journey so far.
My blog income reports have a lot of value especially for new bloggers to see how I work and advance my blog, so for now, I will continue to write and publish mine on the first of every month. I love to share what I learn because I have a passion for helping people succeed in all areas of their life!
How I Got Started with Monetizing My Blog
I took a course for new bloggers called Building a Framework. (This course is still in my top two of favorite courses! The price is low and it’s packed with value that helped me make my blog what it is!) During the course, I learned the basics of how to make income from blogging. I decided to start monetizing my blog through affiliate marketing. My first affiliate was Amazon because they are a good fit for any niche. Then, I began to search for affiliate programs for companies that I know and love.
Soon after launching my blog I took a popular course called Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing because other bloggers so highly recommended it and I knew there was still so much I needed to learn to be able to monetize my blog successfully. This course was a game changer for me and this is the other course that is in my top two of favorite courses! I applied the lessons as I went through the course and started to see my affiliate sales come in! I highly recommend Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing to everyone that wants to monetize their blog! The cost will pay for itself and so much more.
Affiliate marketing allows new bloggers to make an income from blogging right away which helps to pay for their blog start-up expenses. It takes time to build up page views to make a decent income from ads. A blogger needs to get to know their readers to be able to fill a need before creating a product for them. Networking with brands to get sponsored posts can take time as well.
My Blog Stats and Income Report for my Sixth Month of Blogging
My pageviews nearly doubled as a result of getting over the summer slump!
I added opt-ins to several posts which brought in new subscribers, woohoo!
I’ve been focusing on Pinterest growth and letting my other social media channels grow organically.
Alexa Ranking: Global Rank – 1,881,112; U.S. Rank – 199,538
Alexa Ranking is a new stat I started following. My Global Rank improved by over 5 million in one month and it was the first month I showed up in the U.S. Rank! The lower the number, the better. Click here to find out your Alexa ranking.
Domain Authority (DA): 17
Domain Authority is a stat I’ve been personally tracking since June when it was ten, and it’s been steadily rising each month. The higher the number, the better. I use a Chrome extension to get my score called MozBar. You can get the free extension here to keep up to date on your DA score.
Total Blog Income Earned in September 2017: $263.14
Pinterest VA work: $150.00
I took on a client for a Pinterest VA job last month which brought in over half of my income.
Ultimate Bundles: $11.99
Google AdSense: $5.89
Total Blog Expenses in September 2017: $58.20
The only thing I bought for my blog last month was The Genius Blogger’s Toolkit, but it was one of my most exciting purchases of the whole year! I got it early since I’m an affiliate. If you are on the fence about spending $97 for The Genius Blogger’s Toolkit, I say go for it! You can thank me later, lol!
I didn’t buy the toolkit last year since I wasn’t a blogger yet. I found out that there were several courses in the toolkit that I was buying! I ended up spending much more for blogging courses without having that bundle!
If you’ve been confused on how to use Tailwind to drive up traffic from Pinterest, then The Genius Blogger’s Toolkit is worth it for that alone! One of the courses is Kate Ahl’s, How to Master Tailwind!
This year I wrote down twelve courses that I’ve been really excited to take, and they are in the bundle! A couple of them are Blog by Number and Find Your Tribe Online!
So far, I’ve taken Media Kit Smash and read Carly Campbell’s book called Pinteresting Strategies which more than covered the price of the bundle alone!
Here is a link to the sales page if you are ready to buy The Genius Blogger’s Toolkit. Just remember the sale ends 10/9/17!
Review of September Goals
I took on a role to lead two accountability groups this September and I want to give these bloggers the support and attention they deserve. Attend EBA Activate (it’s a blog conference in Portland, OR) and network with other bloggers.
- Write a guest post for my favorite blogger’s website, Eden Fried, and interview her for my blog. I have learned so much from her!
I met two of my three goals last month. I had way too much going on in September between being in four accountability groups, starting homeschool, taking an Anatomy & Physiology course for my aromatherapy certification, running my blog, and going to two big conferences back to back to be able to write a guest post. I think I have a habit of overscheduling myself!
What I Learned
I added in three accountability groups this past month. They are all special and so different! There is so much that can be learned from one another’s experiences and accountability to another person. I recommend joining an accountability group or finding an accountability partner if you don’t have one yet.
My traffic from Pinterest doubled in September! I joined thirty Tailwind Tribes this past month, and I think that helped. I spent one day a week pinning a few of my pins to the Tribes and would re-pin in return. I did that only once a week because it takes me over an hour to re-pin to my boards.
I found Tailwind Tribes by joining two Facebook groups (Tailwind Tribes for Pinterest and Pinterest Tailwind Tribes) that post invitations to tribes. I went through each thread and joined the tribes in my niches. It’s free to use Tailwind Tribes, but I recommend the Tailwind Chrome extension to make it easier to use. You can use this link to create your free account and try out a month of the paid version of Tailwind for free!
Activate, a blogging conference
I went to a blogging conference called Activate and got to meet so many bloggers that have become my friends over the last six months. I also made many new friends. I received a lot of insights during the conference that will help me to be a better blogger as well.
Activate: EBA Live Conference Video Package is included in The Genius Blogger’s Toolkit that is on sale right now, and it’s videos of the whole Activate conference! Plus, you can sit in the comfort of your own home and get all the takeaways! I plan to re-watch the conference because there was so much to take in at once. You can get your Genius Blogger’s Toolkit here; sale ends October 9th.
I did a reader survey for the first time last week. I got five responses and I was hoping for at least ten. If you are a regular reader of Aroma Mama, would you spare a moment to fill out my reader survey so I can get to know you better? You can go to the reader survey here.
Goal for October
- I have one big goal this month! I’m going to finish the lessons for my aromatherapy certification program! I’m reducing my blogging tasks to the bare minimum while I work towards my aromatherapy certification. I’m on a mission to help people use essential oils safely and effectively.
